Since 2012, the university’s IT department has offered 12 IT apprenticeship posts, with its training partner QA. Each apprentice is offered a two year contract with the university.
Dhani has recently completed her apprenticeship and has been offered a permanent position within IT services at the university. Along with the award, Dhani receives a cheque for £150 and she has also been shortlisted in the category of Apprentice of the Year in Kingdom FM’s Local Hero Awards, which take place later this year.
All of the apprentices (seven so far) who have been through the full cycle of the two year scheme have secured full time employment in the IT industry at the end of their contract, which means St Andrews has achieved a 100 per cent success rate to date.
Steve Watt, the university’s chief information officer, said, ‘We’re absolutely delighted that Dhani has received this award. She makes a huge contribution to our team and thoroughly deserves this recognition. She has a real eagerness to learn and picks up technical skills very quickly.’
