Introduced with the name ‘Killer application alert’, this latest educational update will explain the very high throughput wireless standard, which supports up to 1.3Gb/s data rates with equipment available today and has the potential to support up to 6.93Gb/s data rates in the future. It will be presented by Siemon’s Valerie Maguire and will take place on 16th September 2014 at 1400 GMT.
Offering users the potential to double their current wireless speeds, the new 802.11ac standard has far reaching implications with respect to cabling infrastructure design. With the introduction of 256 quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM), which allows more bits to be encoded in a single symbol, an eventual 160MHz channel bandwidth and a maximum of eight spatial streams, 802.11ac will immediately support gigabit Wi-Fi with the potential to theoretically deliver 6.93Gb/s wireless data rates in the future.
‘For the first time, the specification of high performance cabling to support access layer switches and uplink connections is critical to achieving multi-Gigabit throughput and the capacity of next generation wireless access points,’ said Valerie Maguire, director of standards and technology at Siemon.
Justifying her claim that IEEE 802.11ac is a ‘killer application’ Maguire continued, ‘IEEE 802.11ac has a dual edged requirement for both 10GBase-T and Type 2 remote powering for optimum performance – it therefore demands a properly designed and deployed zone cabling architecture that uses thermally stable shielded cable of category 6A or higher. This standard makes the wait-and-see stance concerning 10GBase-T adoption in support of LAN applications a position of the past.’
Explaining the focused webinar, David Wall, global integrated marketing manager at Siemon commented, ‘We are proud to continue our complimentary webinar series with this engaging and exciting session on the latest wireless standard. All applicable terminology will be explained and clearly presented for a wide range of technical and non-technical audiences. As part of Siemon’s commitment to keeping industry professionals informed, this short, educational webinar will answer questions concerning emerging 802.11ac technology trends, products and capabilities.
‘Applicable standards terminology and updates will be clearly presented using non-technical language and the webinar will also provide a question and answer session for participants to interact with our expert presenter, Valerie Maguire, to get the specific information they need surrounding this latest wireless technology.’
