The 2015 CEI found that consumers now demand Wi-Fi without limits, and need better performance in all rooms of the home. A likely cause is the growing number of mobile devices, including smartphones and tablets, that are connected and often consuming data heavy content like HD video. In fact, the study found that the average consumer now has 6 Wi-Fi connected video devices, a major cause of so-called Wi-Fi crunch, with 35 per cent of people streaming subscription TV services to the bedroom.
Moreover, with higher numbers of people working from home than ever, it is imperative to have domestic Wi-Fi equipment that can match the cutting edge network infrastructure of the workplace.
In practice this means the future provision of additional routers and/or range extenders, giving customers the option to choose more premium/additional equipment. Furthermore, it is important to ensure better education for people on how to maximise their home Wi-Fi performance, and generally tailor customer premises equipment to household consumption patterns and needs.
