Eaton launches Ellipse PRO: The new energy saving UPS

Eaton’s Ellipse PRO UPSs provide effective protection against data loss and equipment damage for a wide range of users, including IT managers in small and medium sized companies, small business owners such as architects, doctors and lawyers, and home users with valuable IT assets. The units are offered, as standard, with a full three year warranty. In addition, for customers in the EU and Norway, Eaton is offering unlimited insurance for connected computer equipment if damaged by power supply problems.

‘The new Ellipse PRO products provide those with small IT installations with features that were previously only available on larger, more costly UPSs’, said Christophe Jammes, single phase product manager, Eaton’s Power Quality Division. ‘In particular, the innovative LCD display gives users, at a glance, all the information they need about the state of the mains supply, UPS battery charge level, estimated runtime, and overall UPS status. With this information, they can work with complete confidence, knowing that their equipment and data is fully protected.’

Ellipse PRO UPSs are available in four versions: 650 VA, 850 VA, 1,200 VA and 1,600 VA. They use line interactive topology, with booster and fader automatic voltage regulation (AVR), which ensure that they offer a steady output voltage even if the input voltage varies over the wide range of 150V to 285V. The integral automatic surge reduction feature provides complete protection against power surges caused, for example, by nearby lightning strikes, and includes an indicator to confirm that the surge protection is active. As well as power line surge protection, Ellipse PRO UPSs offer protection for data lines, including broadband and Ethernet connections.

To provide simplified, convenient installation, the devices can be used in horizontal or vertical orientation. In addition, optional kits are available to allow the units to be rack or wall mounted.

All versions incorporate energy saving EcoControl functionality. This feature, which can be activated or deactivated by the user, automatically disables peripherals such as printers and external hard drives when power to the master device – usually the computer – is turned off. Eaton estimates that this will yield energy savings of up to 15 per cent on the 650VA and 850VA units, and up to 20 per cent on the 1,200VA and 1,600VA units.

With each of its new UPSs, Eaton supplies a copy of its Windows based auto-shutdown software package that offers advanced energy management facilities including safe system shutdown in the event of mains power failure, energy use and energy cost reporting, and easy access to UPS event and status logs.
