Over 67km of Draka’s space saving high density Category 6 network cable has been installed as part of the local area network (LAN) for the Dixons Allerton Academy.
Designed by architect BDP, the new academy will specialise in health and science and has been designed to create optimal conditions for teaching and learning for the 1,920 students and the local community.
Abzorb was awarded the contract to supply and install fully integrated high density Category 6 structured cabling system at the 14,500m2 development, under construction on land adjacent to the existing school in Oaks Lane. Wates Construction is the main contractor; Abzorb is working with H&C Moore, the project’s mechanical and electrical contractor.
The high density Category 6 cabling will form the LAN at the school. The network will serve both classrooms and administration areas in addition to surveillance cameras and door access systems throughout the three storey building.
At the heart of the network is the school’s central server. This feeds eight remote patching hubs through a fibre optic cable backbone. Up to 350 high density Category 6 cables link each remote server to individual data sockets. There are approximately 1,500 data sockets on the project, located in floor boxes, dado trunking and in wall mounted boxes. The cable connecting these to the patching hubs is contained in high level basket trays, mounted in the false ceiling void.
When the scheme opens its doors, Bradford will have a spectacular new academy supported by a state-of-the-art network cabling system that will help provide an inspiring environment for the benefit of pupils, teachers and the local community alike.
