Convergence Group selects Geo Networks’ fibre for its customers
Geo Networks has announced a second deal with Internet Protocol (IP) and network provider, Convergence Group. The Midlands based service provider serves bandwidth intensive sectors such as technology and broadcast. The deal sees a 36km network carry voice, web and video traffic across London via Geo fibre in the city’s sewer network.
Following the successful implementation of a dark fibre connection between two London data centres last year, the new backhaul network will connect both data centres to major broadcasting hub, BT Tower.
The fibre will provide Convergence Group with its own infrastructure, on which it can install and manage its own or third party equipment to light the fibre. Initially the company will light 10Gb/s, but will be able to add extra capacity rapidly and at very little additional cost. Additionally, the fibre will provide an alternative to the current facility lines available into BT Tower, eliminating the need to compress or decompress content for a superior end-user experience.
The network is due for completion in August 2011.
