This is the second year Gartner has released the ‘Magic Quadrant for Wired and Wireless LAN Access Infrastructure’ report and the second time that Alcatel-Lucent has been placed as Visionary. To be included vendors must supply both Wired and Wireless LAN equipment to Enterprises with specific product specifications and revenue minimums. Not all vendors in the Wired or Wireless LAN market met these requirements for inclusion.
As stated in the report, ‘A vendor in the Visionaries quadrant has demonstrated the ability to increase features in its offering to provide a unique and differentiated approach to the market. A Visionary will have innovated in one or more key area of access layer technologies (e.g., convergence, security, management or operational efficiency). The ability to apply differentiating functionality across the entire access layer will affect their position.’
Stephane Robineau, vice president, networks business, Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise, said, ‘Enterprise converged campus networks demands solutions that make it easier for IT departments to manage access policies for users who are accessing the network from a variety of devices. Our Application Fluent Network vision brings innovation in access layer technologies with unique security, management and operational efficiency, ideal for this market shift.
‘We’re pleased to be recognised as a key player in the latest Gartner Wireless and Wired LAN Magic Quadrant. Combining OmniSwitches with OmniAccess WLAN and OmniVista Network Management product lines, Alcatel-Lucent provides intelligent and cost effective unified access solutions to solve the network challenges such as BYOD and unpredictable bandwidth from today’s multimedia applications.’
