IDC and VCE study highlights the need for leveraging converged infrastructure to drive business agility

Key findings of the study showed that the VCE customers experienced 96 per cent less downtime and that IT infrastructure and staff costs were reduced by 36 per cent. Applications were deployed in 66 per cent less time and application development life cycles were 55 per cent faster. IDC also found that companies that used to spend 78 per cent of their time and budgets just keeping the lights on cut that time to just 46 per cent.

These findings point to increased productivity because more staff time was made available in which to implement new projects and create new products.

As corporate circumstances change in a dynamic market, IT has to match them by making its own changes quickly and effectively. IT departments must make it easier to deliver new applications, add new features and functionality, and scale infrastructure quickly — both up and down — as demands change.

IDC predicts that IT departments will spend more than $10bn this year on converged infrastructure systems. Moreover, they predict that spending on converged infrastructure will continue to grow by a healthy 27 per cent rate in the coming years to represent $14.3bn in 2018.
