Graeme Duncan, managing director of Westhill based IT firm Xtreme Business Solutions took part in the London to Paris Skyline cycling challenge to raise funds for Cash for Kids. He was joined on the bike ride by fellow local businessmen Colin Fraser of Cable Solutions and Scott McDougall of Towergate who raised funds for Help the Hospices and CLAN respectively. The total raised will be split equally between the three charities.

The north-east trio joined a larger group of around 100 cyclists to complete the charity ride over four days from 8th-11th May 2013. The route, which involved some strenuous hill climbs, was made even more challenging by some difficult weather conditions, including 20mph winds and rain. On the final day the cyclists successfully negotiated the notorious Parisian traffic at the Arc de Triomphe before finishing at the base of the Eiffel Tower.

Graeme said, ‘Cash for Kids, Help the Hospices and CLAN carry out invaluable work here in the north-east, which is why we wanted to give all three charities our support. Cash for Kids assists local disabled and disadvantaged children, Help the Hospices strives to support those who provide end of life care, while CLAN offers comfort and support for cancer sufferers, their carers and their families.

‘We are extremely grateful to all of those who supported our efforts and, in particular to Scott’s employer, Towergate, which agreed to double the amount of money raised for our chosen charities.’

The London to Paris challenge is not the first charity cycle that Graeme has tackled. In August last year he undertook a 200 mile round trip of the north-east along with fellow Westhill and District Round Table member David Anderson in aid of Cash for Kids. The effort raised more than £3,000 for disabled and disadvantaged young people in the area.

Michelle Herd, charity manager, Cash for Kids said, ‘We are delighted that Cash for Kids will be one of the beneficiaries of Graeme’s latest cycling challenge. The fundraising efforts of groups such as this mean a great deal to Cash for Kids. The requests we receive for grants from north-east youngsters in need continue to outweigh the funds we have available, so every penny raised really will make a difference.’
