A virtual desktop solution from NComputing has been installed at a girls’ school in Camden.Camden School for Girls (CSG) is a secondary school for over 1,000 pupils in London.
When the school’s head of ICT investigated how to update the school’s desktop computers, he chose to introduce desktop virtualisation. Desktop virtualisation presented him with the opportunity to expand the number of desktop computers in the school, whilst reducing upfront acquisition and ongoing costs and increasing the expected lifecycle of each desktop device by three fold, compared to traditional PCs. He began a roll out of NComputing’s L300 Ethernet based virtual desktop solutions supporting Windows MultiPoint Server (WMS), at a ratio of 20 users to one host server – with each student enjoying a rich Windows 7 computing experience. With the L300 solution, a single server is now located centrally and shared by multiple users for on site and secure remote working.
CSG worked with NComputing reseller IT GB to initially deploy host servers and 50 L300 virtual desktops throughout the sixth form study room and English classrooms.
CSG now plans to roll out NComputing L300 virtual desktop devices throughout the remainder of the school’s computing environment.
