Call for more women telco mentors

Due to increased demand, The Institute of Telecoms Professionals (ITP) is now looking to recruit more women mentors from the telecoms industry who want to help support and develop female talent in the telco industry.

‘We are delighted that the mentoring scheme has been so successful to date,’ said Ann Potterton, CEO of the ITP. ‘In response to the increase of women in telcos, the ITP are looking for proactive and experienced women mentors who want to help nurture talent in our sector. We’d welcome the opportunity to talk to anyone who’s interested in getting involved in the programme.

‘We have a structured mentoring scheme that supports both the mentor and mentee. Our mentors, who dedicate a couple of hours per month to support, advise and coach mentees, get as much out of coaching as our new talent.’

The successful scheme was launched in 2001, has seen more than 100 mentors and mentees from companies including, BT, Alcatel-Lucent and Cable & Wireless, working together to enhance leadership and management skills, achieve professional qualifications, gain career progression and enhance professional rewards.

To find out more about becoming a mentor or a mentee please visit: www.theitp.org/mentoring or send an email to mentoring@theitp.org.
